Redesigning ‘Old School’

If all brands kept it old school, lets face it, I’d be out of a job, but for some brands it’s a trendy way to go, like Fentimans. A British company that has been producing sodas and mixers since 1905; they make their beverages using their time honored method of botanically brewing the finest natural ingredients.


So how do you redesign a package while keeping it old school? It’s all in the details. Your first concept should keep the most equitable items from the existing package. Be it the label shape, the color, the logo, the arced type; once identified, start to explore other further out ideas from there. For inspiration you can search Pinterest for “vintage packaging” which brings up a ton of samples that embrace the retro spirit. Show a range of concepts that keep that old heritage feeling and you’ll be golden!


FUN FACT: The pooch on the neck label and cap is Thomas Fentiman’s pet dog ‘Fearless’ who had won awards for obedience at the famous ‘Crufts’ dog competition in the early 1900’s.
